Involuntary movements are unplanned and unpredictable patterns of movements. They may occur at rest or during movement. They may be fast, jerky movements or slow writhing movements. Involuntary movements may affect the person’s posture and positioning. Involuntary movements may cause discomfort, distress and anxiety which may exacerbate the problem. How to Help:
Help the person and those caring for them to develop an understanding of the movement disorder.  Those assisting the person should provide reassurance and try to reduce levels of anxiety and distress.  It is important to follow posture and seating guidelines (Postural Management and Seating).  Referral to a Consultant Neurologist may be helpful.
