Topographical disorientation refers to difficulty in finding the way in the large-scale spatial environment and inability to recall the spatial arrangement of familiar surroundings.

  • The person  may have difficulty in finding their way to the bathroom and back.  This may be worse during the night.
  • The person may have difficulty finding their way around.
  • The person may have difficulty finding their way to the shop.
  • These difficulties can result in confusion for the person and their carers if they do  not understand why they are unable to find their way around any more.
  • The person may become frustrated and irritated.
  • The person may avoid participating in activities and isolate themselves.
