  • Give the individual extra time when they are participating in a task.
  • Show the individual the item to use and name it. Ask them to try to remember it for the next time.
  • Ensure the environment is uncluttered and well lit, and keep things in the same place so they can be found.
  • Encourage the individual to use vision when searching for items.
  • Lay items out in the order they will be used.
  • It is important to help the person to participate in an activity without doing it for them, e.g. guide their hand to lift a cup from the table or ask them to persevere with looking and finding something, don’t do it for them.
  • Ask an Occupational Therapist for assessment and advice.
