• Sedation/drowsiness and fatigue.
  • Impaired cognitive function and may cause increased levels of confusion. This can result in increased anxiety and/or agitation.
  • Apathy and reduced motivation.
  • Difficulties eating, drinking and swallowing (Dysphagia). This increases the risk of malnutrition, confusion and chest infections (risk of aspiration).
  • Difficulties managing salivation.
  • Impaired communication skills.
  • Muscle weakness and tremor.
  • Dizziness and visual-perceptual disturbances.
  • Impaired mobility and risk of falls.
  • Risk of hypotension.
  • Risk of increasing disinhibition.
  • Risk of Benzodiazepine dependancce.
  • Risk of respiratory depression in some patients, particularly if there is a history of respiratory disease.
  • Risk of blood abnormalities.
  • Sexual dysfunction.
  • Urinary retention/urinary incontinence.
