To facilitate a safe, supported and comfortable lying position for the person who is unable to position themselves, a team approach is helpful.

Lying down provides the person with a large base of support. This should decrease their tone and the pressure exerted on vulnerable areas which may be at risk of developing pressure ulcers.  However, additional support may be required by utilising pillows and wedges. These will provide increased stability and sensory feedback. T-Rolls (placed over the thighs and between the knees) can also be used to promote good alignment of the body whilst in a lying position.

Further advice and support can be sought from Occupational Therapy and/or Physiotherapy.
