Assessment of bladder dysfunction must include:

  • Information about bladder function prior to admission, including previous investigations, treatment and management.
  • General medical, surgical and obstetric history.146356922-assessment
  • List of current medications.
  • Symptom profile.
  • Impact on the person’s quality of life.
  • Any relevant psychological factors.
  • Urinalysis.
  • Frequency/volume chart for 3 days.
  • Bowel chart for 7 days.  (Interpretation of Bowel Chart).
  • Physical examination should include a pelvic floor assessment and digital rectal examination when indicated.
  • A post void bladder scan should be carried out if possible where there are signs of incomplete bladder emptying, frequency, urgency or overflow incontinence.
