Assessment of behavioural difficulties is complex and requires the integration of information from a wide variety of sources.

A comprehensive approach to assessment is helpful:

  1. Ensure a multidisciplinary assessment has been carried to try to fully identify all contributory factors.
  2. Consider all possible contributory factors. Please refer to:
  1. Consider the communicative purpose of the behaviour.
  2. Carry out a functional analysis of behaviour.

Once a comprehensive assessment of the contributory factors has been completed, plans can be put in place to try to manage and reduce the behavioural difficulties.
