How to Help the Person with Visual Perceptual Impairments
- Be patient and reassuring.

- Give the individual extra time when they are participating in a task.
- It is important to help the person to participate in an activity without doing it for them e.g:
- Guide their hand to help them to lift a cup from the table.
- Name, locate and identify objects during daily activities e.g. “this is your toothbrush; you keep it by the sink”.
- Provide objects and tools in specific colours to help with recognition i.e. use colour coding.
- Make sure the environment is well lit.
- Ensure the environment is uncluttered.
- Keep things in the same place so they can be found.
- Ask an Occupational Therapist for assessment and advice.
