- Sedation/drowsiness and fatigue.
- Impaired cognitive function and may cause increased levels of confusion. This can result in increased anxiety and/or agitation.
- Apathy and reduced motivation.
- Difficulties eating, drinking and swallowing (Dysphagia). This increases the risk of malnutrition, confusion and chest infections (risk of
aspiration).
- Difficulties managing salivation.
- Impaired communication skills.
- Muscle weakness and tremor.
- Dizziness and visual-perceptual disturbances.
- Impaired mobility and risk of falls.
- Risk of hypotension.
- Risk of increasing disinhibition.
- Risk of Benzodiazepine dependancce.
- Risk of respiratory depression in some patients, particularly if there is a history of respiratory disease.
- Risk of blood abnormalities.
- Sexual dysfunction.
- Urinary retention/urinary incontinence.
